adieu simone

When he left me at the opera house
I noticed how small I am
and fidgety
everything I thought coherent toppled
whatever I thought beautiful marred
my flesh retracted because he wasn’t there
to give me meaning
to give me a reason I got even smaller my limbs
shrunk and crawled into joint holes
for a moment I was a wisp of skin
then I was gone until he might
pick me up from the opera house
some other day some other time
in Berlin.
